Jo (Marta Jo)'s Story

Thanks to Jackie, Tim, Nancy, Mindy, Mary, etc. THE WONDERFUL REUNION COMMITTEE for a great weekend! I'm back in Seattle and back to work. I'm exhausted from talking and laughing, but so glad I went. The only problem is that it is such a short time and I wish I had been able to talk longer with many of my classmates. Thanks to everyone who was able to be there...it was great to get together! After Centennial I attended Colorado State University, graduating in 1975 with a B.A. in Social Work. I moved to Denver and worked as the Director of Social Work in a 300 bed long term care facility. During that time Gwen Mayes worked there as Activity Director! I left Denver for the University of Kansas and graduated in 1978 with my Master's in Social Work. My area of interest was Geriatric Mental Health. I moved to Washington State that year and took a job in Aberdeen, Wa. developing a mental health proram for senior adults for a two county area. During that time much of my free time was working in the local community theatre. I had supporting roles in several plays and also worked on sets, front of house, etc. It was great ...Expand for more
fun and often reminded me of the musicals at Centennial! After five years my grant funding ended and I moved to Seattle in 1983. I met my husband, John Langmeyer that same year and we were married in 1985. John had graduated from the University of Washington in Physical Therapy, but was working as a general contractor when we married. I went back to school for post-graduate training in Marriage and Family Therapy. I completed the program and our daughter, Erika was born in 1988 and our son, Kurt in 1991. I started a small private counseling practice and enjoyied coop preschool with my children, volunteering in their elementary school and being a busy mom. Erika has graduated from college with a BFA in Modern Dance and is currently living in NYC working to establish herself in a dance company. Kurt is at Southern Oregon U. and is working toward a BFA in Theatre Arts with a focus in acting. My folks are 88, 89 years and still living in the home where I grew up in Champaign. I feel very fortunate to have gone to school at Centennial and met so many wonderful people along the way! Please call if you are in Seattle!
